Halocarbon Introduces Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) in Two Levels of Purity

River Edge, NJ - October 27, 2004 - Halocarbon Products Corp., one of the world’s leading producers of specialty fluorochemicals, announced today that it has started production of two grades of Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP). HFIP can be used as a solvent for many different types of polymers, as well as to make synthetic pharmaceuticals. HFIP is a water clear liquid and is soluble in water and many organic solvents. HFIP can be used as a solvent for many different classes of polymers due to its strong hydrogen bonding properties. It is useful for preparation of fluorinated esters of polyacrylate and polymethacrylate polymers. HFIP is also used to make synthetic pharmaceuticals.

Halocarbon can currently produce HFIP in two grades - the normal specification of 99.9% purity and a chromotography grade of 99.99% purity.

Halocarbon’s core products - fluorochemicals, inert lubricants and inhalation anesthetics - all benefit from the presence of fluorine. Halocarbon was the first large-scale producer of trifluoroacetic acid and trifluoroethanol, the first producer of commercial quantities of CFC substitutes and the first US producer of fluorinated anesthetics.
