Bromotrifluoroethylene is a gas at ambient conditions. It is sold as a liquid under pressure. It is useful as a monomer and can be used to prepare various polymers and co-polymers.

Bromotrifluoroethylene is used to prepare various polymers and co-polymers. It is also used in the preparation of fluorinated styrenes. Some examples of its utility in organic synthesis are shown below.
